Hans Buchner, German, 1856-1941. Buchner’s style elegantly captures the delight of flirtation and budding courtship of the Gilded Age. Although Buchner lived much of his life in Munich, he had a passion for painting from a young age and most likely studied in Paris. Along with renowned peers like Reggianini, Ricci, and Soulacroix, Buchner focused on capturing the essence of the opulence of a bygone era. The artistic reinterpretation of the previous century centered on graceful figures in sumptuous surroundings with rich supple textures framed in coquettish poses. Among other prestigious houses, his works have been auctioned by Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Bonhams.

*In overall good condition. Visible signs of inpainting to chest and the extended arm. Dark area around signature and shadow at neck are darker under UV light. Small, spot-like, darker accretions in the blue settee. Minor abrading to upper left edge and upper left corner. Small, spot-like abrasions to other edges.
